Hi, I’m Burk.
You’ve found your way here, which either means that you’ve read my writing in places like Medium, Vocal Media, Quora, CloutPub, Hashnode, my blog, or on social media, or you’ve discovered my Substack page directly through Substack.
Whatever it is, I’m delighted to see you here.
This is my first official Substack post. Lovingly called Chapter #1. It hopefully marks the beginning of a wonderful writing journey together.
Let me quickly introduce myself, as I have found that personal details about my favorite creators oftentimes make me feel more connected to them.
My name is Burk, which is my nickname, of course. My full German name is Burkhard Rosemann. Hard to pronounce and even harder to remember. That’s why I went with Burk.
I live in Germany, born and raised on a small peninsula in the North Sea, I now reside in a small-ish city in Northern Germany with my wife and kids.
By day, I’m a computational linguist, working remotely for Google Germany. By night (and day most likely), I’m a father of 4, soon to be 5.
For over 13 years, I’ve been blogging on and off about various topics in different places online. For the majority of these 13 years, I was exclusively writing in German. Finally, in late 2020, I decided to go full in on English content. I had my doubts, as my English had never been near a native level, but I was eager to learn. I figured that I’d reach a larger audience by publishing in English. That led me to Medium.
This month, the 26th to be exact, marks my 6 month anniversary on Medium. I couldn’t be happier about the results.
In these 6 months, I gained over 2100 followers on Medium, I wrote almost 130 articles, I made around $2700, got 4 bonus payments, and, most importantly, build a wonderful community within Medium and outside through comments, discussions, shared experiences, and interactions. This is why I love writing.
During these 6 months on Medium, I also revived my blog, I started writing on Vocal Media, created a tech section on Hashnode, jumped onto Quora to answer questions, experimented with BitClout and CloutPub, and reached an even broader audience with this.
What can you expect from me on Substack?
Good question! Substack will be something special. In this newsletter - which I don’t like to call newsletter, so I call it my writing family - I will share personal details with you. I might add a relevant link or a recap of popular stories here and there.
So, if you want to join me on this adventure here, I’d love to have you on board.

If you stay here, thank you so much for your support. Don’t hesitate to ask me questions in the comments. I’ll try to reply to each question. You can also leave your questions on Quora if you like to reach an audience there as well.
For now, take care,
