We all know it. Guns aren’t the problem. Not in America.

The solution to our problems is more guns. And fewer doors.

“Ultimately, as we all know, what stops armed bad guys is armed good guys” — Ted Cruz, Friday May 27th, 3 days after Uvalde.

Spot on.

Guns aren’t the culprit

“It’s a lot easier to moralize about guns and to shriek about those you disagree with politically. But it’s never been about guns,” — Cruz said.

The real culprits are

“broken families, absent fathers, declining church attendance, social media bullying, violent online content … chronic isolation, prescription drug and opioid abuse.”

Oh, and let’s not forget the doors. No, not the band. Actual doors.

“One of the things that everyone agreed is, don’t have all of these unlocked back doors”.

Yeah, back doors are the issue. America will now be focusing on eliminating the doors in schools. One door for each, manned by a good guy with a gun.

America’s problem isn’t guns. It’s doors.

We need background checks on anyone who wants to use a door. No illegal doors anymore. Manual doors, automatic doors, revolving doors. Those high-powered hot spots for violence.

I’m European. From Germany. I can’t even comprehend what an outlier the US is in terms of gun deaths.

You may think you know. But trust me, you don’t know.

Here’s the sad history of gun violence in the greatest country on earth.

Shootings

19 kids, not just kids, but innocent little elementary school children, were killed in Uvalde, Texas on May 24th 2022. And two teachers, not to forget.

That tragedy of epic proportions happened only days after the previous mass shooting in Buffalo, New York. With 10 deaths and 3 wounded.

The victims weren’t even buried. The guns strike again. And worse.

Gun facts

For the past 20 years, mass shootings have happened every single year in America.

Every. Single. Year. For 20 years in a row.

The US is the only country on that gruesome list.

From 2009 to 2018, these are the numbers of school shootings worldwide:

United States — 288
Mexico — 8
South Africa — 6
India — 5
Nigeria — 4
Pakistan — 4
Afghanistan — 3
Brazil, Canada, and France — 2
Azerbaijan, China, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Kenya, Russia, and Turkey — 1

So, that’s 45 for the world outside the US. And 288 in the US.

The USA is the only country on this planet that has more civilian guns than people. Yep. That’s a lot of people. And even more guns. 393 million civilian-owned firearms, to be exact.

4% of the world’s population is made up by Americans. Yet, America owns 46% of the world’s civilian firearms. Almost half.

America has the highest rate of gun-related homicides of all developed countries worldwide. It’s in fact 26 times higher than other countries on that list. 26 times.

More than 30% of the world's gun-related suicides happen in America. 1 in 3.

But sure, blame the doors, Ted.

Politicians illegalize that next abortion, only to have the child killed in another school shooting.

Pro-Life. No choice.

Lobby

To the gun lobbyists…

I know you’re practically worse than the killers, but even you should be having a hard time living with yourselves, lobbying for guns.

Australia had a mass shooting in 1996. 35 people were killed and 23 wounded. Within 12 days of that shooting, the Australian government passed new laws and implemented a buyback program for 650,000 firearms.

Has everything been perfect in the land down under since then? Of course not, but mass shootings and other gun-related incidents have decreased significantly.

No remorse

Not America though. Nooooo.

Quite the opposite.

The NRA just held their largest annual gathering to promote the latest gun technology in Houston, Texas on May 27th.

280 miles from Uvalde. 3 days after the school shooting at Robb Elementary.

No remorse.

Who was there speaking? Teddy Cruz.

Oh, and Donald Trump. Always in good company. Right place, right time, right?

The bottom line

It’s sad madness.

It’s become painstakingly clear that guns are more important than children to the powerful people who could do something about it.

They don’t. They won’t.

People die.

Because guns aren’t the problem.

This country has a gun fetish and an inferiority complex. That’s a dangerous combination.
