An ever-growing email list is a good thing, isn’t it?

It is.

In fact, growing an email list might be the most important thing a writer can do at the beginning of his or her online journey.

It’s free to grow, you can take it with you from platform to platform, from service to service. Hell, you can even bypass newsletter & marketing providers like Substack, ConvertKit, or Mailchimp entirely, and instead directly write emails to your email list members from Gmail (or whatever email service you use).

Few people would do this though. I wouldn’t. Email list platforms like the aforementioned offer much more than basic email functionality.

I use Substack for my newsletter. I use Gumroad for email automation. I also tried ConvertKit, MailChimp, EmailOctopus, MailerLite, Revue, and more during my time online.

Over three years, I have grown multiple email lists with those providers. With a few thousand members. What I had never done until recently though, is removing email subscribers. Then I did.

Here are two simple reasons why you should consider doing it as well.
